About Us
St. Mary's Healthcare Center in Pierre, South Dakota is the only hospital of its size located within a radius of 112 miles. St. Mary's is part of Catholic Health Initiatives system based in Denver, Colorado. The healthcare center is Pierre's second largest private employer with 475 employees. In 2000, St. Mary's invested $12.5 million into a major building addition to upgrade its services for patients in the emergency room, same day surgery, and operating rooms. Another $12 million building addition was completed in 2004 to house transitional care, kidney dialysis and rehabilitation.
St. Mary's Healthcare Center is accredited by Joint Commission. St. Mary's sponsors Gettysburg Medical Center located 60 miles from Pierre. Our physicians provide outreach services, traveling to outer-lying areas up to 90 miles away.
