Central SD Child Assessment Center
"Wawokiya Oti"
The Central South Dakota Child Assessment Center provides a strong
multi-disciplinary approach to better serve children who are alleged victims of
child abuse.
The Center provides a high quality, state-of-the-art medical evaluation in a
multidisciplinary setting for children who have allegedly been maltreated. The
Center provides a medical history and examination and allows law enforcement,
child protection, mental health advocates and prosecutors to work together to
assess child abuse allegations.
The overall goal is to make sure that children are not further victimized by the
systems designed to protect them. The medical evaluation is designed to reduce
trauma by limiting the number of times a child is interviewed.
The Center provides crisis intervention, ongoing victim assistance and referral
to effective after care to alleged child abuse victims and non-offending family
members.
Referrals come from law enforcement, child protection, or by physician referral
provided the other agencies have been notified.
