Food/Nutrition
The
Food and Nutrition Department is responsible for providing our patients,
residents, customers and employees with safe and nutritious food, following
state and federal regulations. The department employs 41 people, including three
Registered Dietitians/Licensed Nutritionists and four Certified Dietary
Managers. We have a great team of adults and high school students. The
department is open from 6:00 am until 7:30 pm everyday providing meals and
snacks to patients, residents, visitors and employees. In order to better serve
enjoyable meals, each patient is visited by a representative of the department.
New mothers and pediatric patients are given a restaurant style menu and opportunity to select their own choices for lunch and supper. Each day at noon Food and Nutrition Services provides ParkWood Independent Living Facility residents with a complete meal which includes a salad bar. At Maryhouse Long Term Care Facility, everyday is a holiday. Residents sleep until they choose to get up, then they enjoy continental breakfast in their room or go to the exercise room and enjoy their continental breakfast at the coffee table. Residents have brunch mid-morning; a siesta snack is served at 1:00 pm. During the evenings residents enjoy their supper meal and are offered a nice bedtime snack. Maryhouse and Transitional Care Unit (TCU) residents benefit from having a Registered Dietitian/Liscensed Nutritionist providing nutrition care.
Medical Nutrition Therapy is provided to both in-patients and out-patients by a Registered Dietitian/Licensed Nutritionist. We counsel patients in diabetic meal planning, cholesterol, blood pressure control and weight loss. There are many other medical conditions that require the intervention and expertise of a dietitian and we work with them all.
