Oahe Manor
Oahe Manor is a Long Term Care Facility offering complete, around-the-clock
nursing care. It is staffed with Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses
and Certified Resident Assistants. Oahe Manor is attached to the Gettysburg
Memorial Hospital, with easy accessibility to 24 hour emergency facilities and
medical staff. Restorative Care, Physical Therapy, Occupational and Speech
Therapy, Dietary, Activities program, Social Services and Pastoral Care are
offered as well.
Care conferences are held weekly to discuss each Oahe Manor resident's care. A
thorough assessment is reviewed every three months for each resident and care
goals and objectives are formed. Staff involved in the care conferences include
a registered nurse, restorative aide, activities coordinator, social services,
pastoral care and dietary manager. Family members and the resident are invited
to participate in the meeting, giving each an opportunity to share ideas and
concerns with staff.
In 1998, Oahe Haven, a Dementia Care Unit opened at the Oahe Manor. The 19 bed
unit is a warm, safe, independent environment that revolves around the special
needs of people with Dementia. The specially trained staff provides care to
attain or maintain the highest physical, mental and psychosocial well-being of
each resident.
The care the residents receive is "person centered care" with an emphasis on
activities. The "person centered care" concept allows staff to focus on each
individual's life circumstances. The resident's interests are taken into
consideration when planning activities. Residents are allowed to set their own
schedule for eating, sleeping and rising in the morning. Staff are sensitive to
the individual needs of each resident, ensuring that each resident receives the
care they need while feeling at home with us. We understand that long term care
is more than just medical attention, it's about enjoying the comforts of home
with a little added piece of mind.
