Physical Therapy

Physical TherapyThe Physical Therapy Department is staffed by licensed Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants, and Physical Therapy Aides. The staff works with patients who are in the hospital, residents of Maryhouse long-term care facility, the Transitional Care Unit, the Pierre Area School System, and outpatients.

The goal of the Physical Therapy staff is to assist the patient in obtaining their full potential in recovering from an illness or injury. Patients ranging from infants to elderly receive a variety of treatments to assist them in the improvement of their gross motor skills.

St. Mary's Physical Therapy staff works closely with the patient's physician in designing a program for their recovery. Our staff provides therapy for babies, children, and adults of all ages. They not only work with children at the hospital, but also in home and school settings as well.

St. Mary's Physical Therapy Department is located on the fourth floor of the North Building.

The Physical Therapy Department includes a large, carpeted gym with exercise equipment and specialized treatment areas. The apartment-like setting benefits those who face the challenge of re-learning activities of daily living after an injury, illness, or surgery. Large windows provide an open view of Griffin Park and the Missouri River. Access to this department can be gained from St. Mary's main entrance/lobby. Patient/visitor parking is available in the north parking lot between St. Mary's and Sioux Avenue, on Dakota Avenue, and other surrounding parking lots and streets.
