Transitional Care Unit
Transitional Care Unit (TCU) is
a 23-bed nursing care unit, which includes two hospice suites. TCU is
Medicare/Medicaid Certified and designed to meet the needs of patients who no
longer meet the requirements
for an acute care facility (hospital), nor are able
to return to their home. The TCU is staffed by Nurses, Certified Nurse Aides,
social workers, spiritual care providers, therapists (physical, occupational and
speech) and
activities coordinators to meet the physical and spiritual needs of the
patients. The length of stay for patients who stay in the TCU can vary from just
a few days to a month or more, depending on the patient's needs.
Patients at TCU do not require treatment as intense as those patients who are in the hospital, therefore care is provided in a more cost-effective manner. St. Mary's TCU promotes optimum levels of function for each person by recognizing and intervening to meet their physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs by collaborating with a team of professionals.
TCU is on the fourth floor of St. Mary's Hospital, adjacent to the Rehabilitation Department. The nature and length of stay in this unit require large, comfortable and more home-like rooms that accommodate visitors. All rooms are private, have in-room showers and are tastefully decorated. There are two hospice suites that include private, large, comfortable patient rooms and an attached family room.
The Transitional Care Unit can also accommodate those residents who choose to stay, because of their condition, on a private pay basis.
Visitors to TCU can access this Unit from the main entrance in the North Building. Patient/visitor parking is available in the north parking lot between St. Mary's and Sioux Avenue, on Dakota Avenue, and other surrounding parking lots and streets.
